EID Waste Management DNCC deploys 16,000 workers
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has prepared around 16,000 workers for the removal of sacrificial animal waste during Eid-ul-Azha to ensure a clean and hygienic environment across the city.
DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan said extensive preparations have been taken involving waste management, transport, engineering and property management departments to ensure smooth waste disposal during the festival.
According to DNCC, around 6,500 sanitation workers, 4,500 household waste collectors and nearly 5,500 volunteers will work in the field to ensure swift removal of sacrificial waste from Eid day. Volunteers will also monitor cleanliness activities in all wards, reports BSS.
Last year, DNCC removed 20,889 tonnes of sacrificial waste during Eid-ul-Azha, including 10,616 tonnes on Eid day alone. A similar target has been set for this year.
To support the operation, DNCC will distribute 16.30 lakh polythene bags for waste disposal and keep 3,600 sacks of bleaching powder ready for disinfection after animal slaughter.
A total of 752 vehicles and heavy equipment, including trucks, dumpers, payloaders and water tankers, will be deployed in the waste removal drive. These include 405 rented vehicles, 261 DNCC-owned vehicles and 86 privately managed vehicles.
A temporary central control room will be set up at Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan-2 to coordinate waste management activities. Residents can contact the control room at +880255052084 and 16106.
DNCC Public Relations Officer Md Zobayer Hossain said training is being provided to 1,000 meat processors across 54 wards to ensure proper slaughtering and waste management practices.
He added that awareness campaigns through mosque sermons, rallies, television, radio, newspapers and miking will be conducted to encourage public cooperation in maintaining cleanliness during Eid-ul-Azha.
