Filmmaker Jafar Panahi faces trial again in Iran
World-renowned Iranian film director Jafar Panahi, who has spent his life fighting the Iranian government’s strict restrictions and censorship, is facing legal complications again.
A revolutionary court in Tehran has ordered a new trial against him. Panahi’s main charge is propaganda against the state.
The Hollywood Reporter and Iranian news agency ISNA reported that old charges against Jafar Panahi, mainly ‘anti-state propaganda’ and “making unauthorised films and sending them to international festivals,” are being re-examined.
Panahi was summoned to court for a hearing on May 20.
