Tigers whitewash Pakistan 2-0 in Test series

Bangladesh Cricket team whitewashed Pakistan Cricket team 2-0 in two-Test series after defeating the tourists by 78 runs in the second Test on the fifth and final day at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Litton Das notched up 126 in the first innings and knocked 69 in the second innings. Litton Das was adjudged the Man of the Match for his terrific batting performance. Ace batter Mushfiqur Rahim scored overall 253 runs playing two Test matches against Pakistan.

He was adjudged the Player of the Series for his consistent batting performance. This is for the first time Bangladesh whitewashed Pakistan at home. Bangladesh whitewashed Pakistan 2-0 at Rawalpindi in Pakistan in 2024.

It may be mentioned that the two-Test series between Bangladesh and Pakistan was part of ICC Test Championship.

By virtue of yesterday’s victory, Bangladesh have taken the fifth position in the points table with 28 points and 58.33 points percentage system. Stronger India are breathing on Bangladesh’s knock with 52 points and 48.15 points percentage system. India have taken the sixth position.

Earlier, the Tigers recorded a massive 104-run victory against Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on May 12.

Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a satisfactory 278 in the first innings on the first day (Saturday).
In reply, Pakistan scored 232 in the first innings on the second day (Sunday).

The Tigers piled up a mammoth total of 390 in the second innings on the fourth day (Tuesday).
Pakistan were all out for 358 in the second innings on the fifth and final day.

Pakistan resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 316 for the loss of seven wickets.
Mohammad Rizwan and Sajid Khan resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 75 and eight runs respectively.

Sajid Khan could able to add more 20 runs in his account on the last day as he (28) was caught at the first slip by Najmul Hossain Shanto off Taijul Islam when Pakistan’s total was 358 for the loss of eight wickets. After picking up the wicket of Sajid Khan, Taijul Islam fulfilled his five-wicket haul.

It was left-arm spinner Taijul Islam’s 18th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. After Sajid Khan’s dismissal, Mohammad Rizwan could not stay at the crease for a long period as he was caught at the gully by Mehidy Hasan Miraz off Shoriful Islam when the vicitors’ score was 358 for the loss of nine wickets.

Mohammad Rizwan was deprived from a ton for just six runs. He was a victim of nervous nineties. Rizwan knocked a marvelous 94. His 166-ball innings was laced with 10 fours.

After Rizwan’s dismissal, Taijul Islam struck as Khurram Shahzad (0) was caught at the long-on by Tanzid Hasan off Taijul Islam when Pakistan innings came to an end. Taijul Islam bowled really well as he finished his spell as 34.2-4-102-6.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman congratulated Bangladesh Cricket team for their historic victory against Pakistan at home ground.
