Action warned on harassment of cattle-laden vehicles
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has warned of strict action against leaseholders if they harass or forcefully handle cattle carts and animal-laden vehicles outside designated markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
He said no cattle will be allowed outside market boundaries to maintain discipline and keep roads free from traffic congestion.
The meeting discussed on the overall security and traffic management in the capital including the collection, preservation and marketing of sacrificial animal hides and security of vehicles transporting raw hides, said a DMP press release.
He made the remarks while presiding over a coordination meeting at the DMP Headquarters conference room.
The DMP commissioner also said counterfeit currency detection machines would be installed at cattle markets by the DMP to prevent the circulation of fake notes during Eid trading. Calling on the concerned authorities to refrain from digging roads during the Eid period, he urged all government agencies to work in coordination to ensure a safe and hassle-free Eid journey for people.
At the beginning of the meeting, DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security plan through a power point presentation.
Representatives of different agencies later took part in an open discussion and shared their opinions.
Among others, DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S N Md Nazrul Islam, Additional Commissioner (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) Md Masud Karim, Additional Commissioner (DB) Md Shafiqul Islam and Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman were present at the meeting.
Representatives from various intelligence agencies, specialized police units, Bangladesh Bank, the Department of Livestock, Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection, Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation, Fire Service and Civil Defence, DPDC, DESCO, Dhaka district administration, various public and private service-providing agencies, salt traders’ associations, the Bangladesh Tanners Association and representatives of different cattle market leaseholders attended the meeting.
