Eid waste must be cleared in 8 hours: SCC
Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Administrator Abdul Quiyum Chowdhury said that waste must be removed from the entire city within 8 hours of animal sacrifice on the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha day, warning that there is no scope for negligence or inefficiency in this work.
He said that timely removal of sacrificial animal waste is very important for environmental protection and public health. He made the remarks as the chief guest at a preparatory meeting on the removal of sacrificial animal waste at ward level, held in the Nagar Bhaban on Monday.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s instructions, the SCC administrator said, “Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has attached great importance to the timely removal of sacrificial waste. He has instructed that waste should be removed within 12 hours across the country. However, we have assured the Prime Minister that in Sylhet, waste removal will be completed within 8 hours. Concerned officers, employees of SCC, and sanitation workers must achieve this target.”
Seeking sincere cooperation from city residents for the speedy removal of waste, Abdul Quiyum Chowdhury said, “It is difficult to remove such a large volume of waste within a specified time without public cooperation.
I request everyone to keep sacrificial waste in designated places or bags instead of dumping it indiscriminately, so that SCC cleaners can collect it easily.” He also urged efforts to raise social awareness in this regard.
The administrator said, “The ward that completes waste removal the fastest and most efficiently will be rewarded by SCC. We will provide all necessary logistical and administrative support, but the city must be cleaned and restored within the stipulated time.”
SCC Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rezai Rafin Sarkar said, “Sylhet City Corporation has previously set an example by successfully removing sacrificial animal waste in the shortest possible time. We have the manpower and preparedness. If everyone at the field level works with 100 percent dedication, we will achieve full success this time as well, even before the scheduled time.”
SCC Chief Revenue Officer Bishwajit Deb, Chief Waste Management Officer Lt. Col. (Retd.) Eklim Abdin, Public Relations Officer (Additional Duty) Nehar Ranjan Purkayastha, ward secretaries, and other concerned officials and employees of the Waste Management Department were present and shared their opinions.
