Imranur Rahman and Shirin Akhter have once again became the country’s Fastest Man and Woman of the Country respectively on Sunday.
The king of track and field, Imranur Rahman, retained the title of the country’s Fastest Man.
On the other hand, Shirin Akhter, after overcoming the shock of last summer’s competition, regained her lost crown in the women’s track.
These two stars proved their superiority in their respective events in the 100-meter sprint on the first day of the 49th National Athletics that began at the Dhaka National Stadium on Sunday.
Imranur Rahman of the Bangladesh Navy won the men’s 100-meter sprint easily as usual.
He crossed the finishing line in 10.58 seconds. Mohammad Ismail of the Navy came second in this event with a timing of 10.86 seconds.
And Naeem Islam of the Bangladesh Air Force came third with a timing of 10.91 seconds.
Imranur last won the National Summer Athletics in August with a time of 10.64 seconds.
This time, his timing has improved slightly. Imranur has won all 6 of the 7 consecutive competitions he has participated in since 2022.
Meanwhile, Shirin Akhter lost her crown to Sumaiya Dewan in the National Summer Athletics last August. Shirin’s timing was 12.21 seconds against Sumaiya’s 12.19 seconds.
This time, Shirin became the country’s Fastest Woman again with a time of 12.10 seconds in the National Athletics.
On the other hand, Summer Athletics champion Sumaiya could not be in the top three this time, she came fourth.
Shirin Akhter expressed mixed feelings after getting her crown back. This is the first success after marriage for Shirin, who got married last year.
She was so engrossed in the track that when reminded of her wedding, she smiled and said, “I forgot that I got married!”
She had said something on the track after losing in the 100 meters last time, for which she apologized to everyone.
On Sunday, she thanked everyone and said that everyone has believed in her and supported her.
She thanked everyone involved, including Coach Abdullahel Kafi, Bangladesh Navy, BKSP, Jessore University of Science and Technology, for this success.
