Govt prioritises natural habitats for animals: Tuku

Fisheries and Livestock State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku conducts a surprise inspection at the Bangladesh National Zoo in Mirpur in the capital on Friday.

The government is working to ensure a safe, healthy and natural habitat for animals while providing modern, high-quality services to visitors, Fisheries and Livestock State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku has said.

He made these remark on Friday while conducting a surprise inspection of the Bangladesh National Zoo in Mirpur to evaluate management standards and animal welfare.

During the visit, the state minister scrutinised the overall environment, healthcare protocols for animals, food supply quality, and security arrangements.

He also took stock of the existing facilities for visitors arriving from various parts of the country.

While interacting with the zoo officials and employees after touring various installations, the state minister emphasised the zoo’s role as a primary hub for recreation and education.

He provided necessary directives to the authorities to transform the zoo into a more modern, clean, and visitor-friendly facility while ensuring a safe habitat for the wildlife.

He also called upon everyone to perform their duties with sincerity to ensure animal welfare, biodiversity conservation, and the safety of the visitors.

Director General of the Department of Livestock Services Md Shahzaman Khan, Curator of the Bangladesh National Zoo Dr Md Atiqur Rahman, and other senior officials were present during the visit.
