Certification Board halts release of ‘Contract Marriage’ due to Zeba’s allegations
Hasan Jahangir’s film ‘Contract Marriage’ has been at the centre of discussion and criticism since its release announcement.
After various criticisms including making a movie by shooting a drama, not paying the fee, and putting his face on the poster of
another movie, the release permission of the movie was canceled at last minute.
Although it was supposed to be released on May 15, the censor certificate of ‘Contract Marriage’ was suspended two days ago.
The matter was confirmed by Masuma Rahman Tani, Managing Director of BFDC, a member of the Film Certification Board.
She said that such a decision was taken based on the complaint of actress Zeba Jannat.
After the announcement of the release of ‘Contract Marriage’ in theatres, actress Moushumi raised the complaint that she worked in it as a drama, not a movie. She claimed that the matter was a fraud.
On behalf of Moushumi, her husband, film actor Omar Sani, complained to the Artistes’ Association, Directors’ Association and Producers’ Association. Then actress Zeba Jannat made the same complaint.
Zeba filed a written complaint to film organisations demanding the postponement of the release of ‘Contract Marriage’.
She claimed that she did not work in any movie ‘Contract Marriage’.
Taking Zeba’s complaint into consideration, the decision was taken to cancel the censorship of the movie.
Masuma Rahman Tani said, “Initially, ‘Contract Marriage’ was granted permission as there were no complaints.
Later, Zeba complained in writing that she was contracted on the pretext of a drama.
But later, when it was planned to be released as a movie, she objected.
In addition, Zeba alleged that there was no formal agreement regarding the film.
For these reasons, the permission to release the movie has been canceled.”
Hasan Jahangir expressed his anger on social media by going live on cancellation of censorship of ‘Contract Marriage’.
