DNCC launches Eid hygiene training programme

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has introduced a special training initiative aimed at ensuring hygienic and systematic management of sacrificial animals, meat processing, hide preservation and post-Eid waste disposal ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

The programme, organised in Mirpur on Thursday, was inaugurated by Md Shafiqul Islam Khan, Administrator of DNCC.

Officials said the initiative is designed to improve coordination among imams, seasonal workers and meat processors to ensure safe slaughtering practices, better hygiene and efficient waste management during the Eid period.

The DNCC administrator emphasised that proper slaughtering techniques and cleanliness must be strictly followed, noting that immediate cleaning of blood with water helps reduce odour and maintain urban sanitation.

He also highlighted the economic importance of animal hides, saying proper preservation and processing can add value to the national economy. Free salt will be distributed to support hide preservation efforts.

Citizens have been instructed to dispose of sacrificial waste in designated bags outside homes to ensure quick collection by city waste management teams, he added.

DNCC Chief Health Officer Imrul Kayes said the training would help maintain quality standards in meat and hide handling during the Eid season. He also noted that imams will play a key role in raising awareness through Friday sermons.

According to DNCC, the initiative comes as the city prepares for the handling of millions of sacrificial animals this Eid-ul-Azha, with authorities aiming for a cleaner, faster post-Eid cleanup across the capital.
