DMP warns action over plates, RFID tags

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said strict legal action will be taken from next week against vehicles that are not using registration number plates and RFID tags issued by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

In a public notice signed on Monday by Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar, the DMP made the announcement.

The notice stated that it is legally mandatory to use number plates of approved colour, design and size at designated positions. However, many vehicles are currently operating without BRTA-issued registration plates and RFID tags, while some are using painted registration numbers instead.

It further noted that although many vehicle owners have paid for the plates, they have not collected the official number plates and RFID tags from the BRTA. In several cases, RFID tags placed on windshields have also been found inactive, creating complications in traffic management.

The DMP warned that from next week, vehicles without BRTA-approved registration plates and RFID tags will face fines and other strict legal measures.
