Shehreen Amin resigns as DU asst proctor

Assistant Professor Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan of the Department of Public Administration at Dhaka University has formally resigned from her post as assistant proctor.

She disclosed the information in a social media post on Monday.

On Sunday, Professor Saifuddin Ahmed resigned from the post of proctor. Subsequently, Associate Professor Md Israfil Prang (Israfil Ratan) of the Graphic Design Department under the Faculty of Fine Arts was appointed acting proctor.

In her post, Shehreen said that during her seven years in academia, she had never intended to take on any administrative responsibility. However, on August 28, 2024, she agreed to serve as assistant proctor at the request of then proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed.

She said receiving such an important responsibility as a young teacher was a great honour for her.
She wrote: “Over the last two years, I learned from Saifuddin sir how a proctor must possess superhuman patience, how to tackle heated situations with a smile and composure, and above all, how to uphold one’s self-respect.”

“He protected students with forgiveness and compassion despite having authority, and as members of his team, we also tried—and continue to try—to do the same,” she added.

She further wrote: “I do not know whether July and the post-July period will ever return to this country again. Probably no other proctor of Dhaka University and their team have faced, or will face, such a situation.”
