Taskin’s half-century of wickets in Test cricket
Taskin Ahmed has become the seventh bowler and third pacer for Bangladesh to complete 50 wickets in Test cricket.
Taskin completed his career-high 50 wickets in the first innings of the first Test of the two-match Test series against Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Sunday.
Taskin entered the Mirpur Test with 49 wickets in 17 Tests. Taskin reached the milestone of taking 50 wickets by stopping Pakistan opener Azan Awais for 103 runs in the ninth over of the third day of the Test.
Taskin made his Test debut against New Zealand in Wellington in January 2017.
After that, he did not play many Tests due to various injuries and workload. Finally, he completed 50 wickets in his 18th Test of his career.
Although Taskin became the seventh bowler for Bangladesh to take 50 wickets, he became the third pacer in the country to achieve this feat.
The previous two pacers were Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Shahadat Hossain.
Taskin holds the record for the fastest 50 wickets among pacers.
Mashrafe took 50 wickets in 19 Tests and Shahadat in 21 Tests. Taskin played 18 Tests to take 50 wickets.
For Bangladesh, 50 or more wickets in Tests have been taken by Taijul Islam (252 wickets in 58 matches), Shakib Al Hasan (246 wickets in 71 matches), Mehedi Hasan Miraz (215 wickets in 57 matches), Mohammad Rafiq (100 wickets in 33 matches), Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (78 wickets in 36 matches) and Shahadat Hossain (72 wickets in 38 matches).
