Govt pledges support to cable, broadcast sector

The government will continue supporting cable operators, internet service providers (ISPs) and broadcasting-related institutions that play a vital role in employment and livelihoods across Bangladesh, said Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam.

He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at the closing ceremony of the International Cable TV, Broadcasting and Communication (ICBC) Expo 2026 held at the International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital on Saturday.

The minister said the sector is undergoing rapid transformation driven by fibre-optic expansion, IPTV, smart technologies and digital content systems, turning it into a key contributor to national development and the ICT economy.

He stressed that the government is prioritising infrastructure development, policy support, skilled manpower and innovation to modernise the industry, while also ensuring ethical use of technology, data privacy and improved service quality.

Acknowledging the contribution of cable operators, he assured continued government cooperation and encouraged stronger international partnerships along with the production of quality local content.
The three-day expo, which began on 7 May, concluded on Saturday, featuring 67 local and international companies showcasing the latest technologies in cable television, broadcasting and communications.

The event was chaired by ABM Saiful Hossain Sohel, president of the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh, with senior officials and industry leaders in attendance, including representatives from city corporations and media organisations.
