DU to host first underwater scuba workshop
The University of Dhaka is set to organise its first-ever workshop on scuba diving and underwater photography on May 13, marking a new step in practical media and visual training in Bangladesh.
The day-long event will be held from 9:00am to 1:30pm at the university’s Physical Education Centre swimming pool.
It is being organised by the Television, Film and Photography Department, University of Dhaka in collaboration with the TFP Photography Club, with technical support from Creative Wings.
Organisers said this is the first initiative of its kind in any educational institution in Bangladesh, focusing on underwater filmmaking, scuba diving and related career opportunities.
The workshop, titled “Underwater Photography and Scuba Diving: Career Pathways and Practical Underwater Filming Experience”, will be divided into two parts.
The first session will cover theoretical knowledge on underwater photography, scuba diving basics and professional prospects, led by experts from Creative Wings. The second session will offer hands-on training in underwater filming and scuba diving techniques.
A total of 100 students will take part. Of them, 80 will join the theoretical and observation segment, while 20 selected participants will receive practical underwater training. All participants will be awarded certificates.
Applicants for the practical session must have basic swimming skills.
