Govt okays Bogura city corporation
The government on Thursday approved the formation of Bogura City Corporation and five new upazilas across the country.
The approval came at the 120th meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms/Reorganisation (NICAR), held at the Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the newly approved upazilas are Mokamtola in Bogura, Matamuhuri in Cox’s Bazar, Ruhia and Bhulli in Thakurgaon, and Chandraganj in Lakshmipur.
Mokamtola upazila will be formed by splitting Shibganj upazila in Bogura, while Matamuhuri upazila will be created by dividing Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
In Thakurgaon, the existing Sadar upazila will be divided to form two new upazilas — Ruhia and Bhulli.
Chandraganj upazila will be established by splitting Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.
With the inclusion of Bogura, the number of city corporations in Bangladesh will rise from 11 to 12.
Meanwhile, the total number of upazilas in the country will increase from 495 to 500.
