KCC forms committee to investigate fuel theft

Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has formed a fresh three-member committee to investigate an alleged fuel theft incident involving one of its vehicles.

According to an office order signed by KCC Acting Secretary Rahima Khatun Bushra on May 4, the committee has been asked to submit its report within five working days. The committee is headed by KCC Executive Engineer (Mechanical) Md. Anisuzzaman. Its other members are Conservancy Officer Mohammad Anisur Rahman and Sub-Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) Mohammad Selimul Azad, reports BSS.

The office order said that on March 19, two days before Eid, Khalishpur B-Region Supervisor Nuruzzaman Sumon informed KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju over mobile phone that fuel was allegedly being stolen from the fuel tank of a backhoe loader in the Khalishpur New Market area.

Following the administrator’s instruction, officials rushed to the spot and seized a container containing several litres of fuel. The driver of the vehicle, Enayet Hossain Babul, was immediately barred from operating the loader.

Sources said this is the third committee formed over the incident. Earlier, a committee was reconstituted after objections were raised regarding one of its members.
