2 held for slitting throat of fish trader

Police have arrested the wife and son of fish trader Rafiqul Islam Rubel (45) for allegedly slitting his throat in Bishnupur village under Singra upazila of Natore.

The arrested have been identified as the victim’s wife Shiuli Begum and their son Saifuddin Siddique Royal.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Singra Police Station Rafiqul Islam confirmed that both the wife and son initially confessed to their involvement in the killing.

“Although they have admitted the crime, the exact motive behind such a gruesome incident is still under investigation,” the OC said.

According to local sources and police, the incident occurred late Sunday night following a family dispute. After an altercation with his wife and son, Rafiqul Islam went to sleep in a separate room. On Monday morning (May 4, 2026), locals rushed to the house after hearing screams and found his blood-stained body.

On information, Singra Police recovered the body and sent it to Natore Modern Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. During investigation, police recovered the alleged murder weapon and blood-stained clothing belonging to the mother and son from a nearby pond.

Legal procedures are underway to file a case over the incident.
