3 RAB men attacked in N’ganj
Three members of a plainclothes intelligence team from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were seriously injured in a machete attack by assailants in Narayanganj.
The injured include two RAB personnel, Mahi and Ibrahim, who received treatment at the Narayanganj Sadar General Hospital.
Another member, Sub-Inspector Najibul, who sustained critical injuries, was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
The incident occurred around 1:00 PM on Tuesday (May 5) in the Boyalia Canal area of Masdair Bazar in Narayanganj city.
Upon receiving the news, the Commanding Officer of RAB-11 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel HM Sajjad Hossain, visited the injured at the Sadar General Hospital along with additional forces.
According to local sources, a plainclothes RAB-11 intelligence team had gone to the area to conduct reconnaissance on a suspected drug den. Shortly after their arrival, armed criminals launched a sudden attack using sharp weapons. The attackers indiscriminately hacked the three RAB members, leaving them severely wounded.
They were later rescued and admitted to Narayanganj General Hospital (Victoria Hospital).
Dr. Zahidul Islam, the Resident Medical Officer of Narayanganj General Hospital, said the RAB members sustained injuries to their heads, hands, and other parts of their bodies due to sharp weapon attacks. One of them was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fatullah Model Police Station, Khandaker Mahbub, said that joint operations by police and RAB are underway to identify and arrest those involved in the attack.
RAB-11 Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel H.M. Sajjad Hossain stated that the attack was carried out by armed drug dealers and criminals when the plainclothes intelligence team arrived in the area.
