‘Agri fair emphasises modern farming’
Agricultural technology and nutrition fair play a vital role in educating both farmers and the general public about modern agricultural practices and the nutritional value of food, said administrator of the City Corporation Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin .
“We envision a greener Bangladesh in the future, and initiatives like this will help us achieve that goal,” she said. Shirin emphasised the importance of technological advancement in agriculture.
A three-day agricultural technology and nutrition fair commenced in Barishal from Monday. Bilkis Akhter Jahan Shirin, administrator of the City Corporation, inaugurated the fair on Monday.
The event has been organised by the Department of Agricultural Extension at Khamar Bari in the city under a project focused on strengthening nutrition and food security through agricultural development.
A total of 12 stalls have been set up at the fair, showcasing a wide range of agricultural innovations and practices.
These include nurseries, improved agricultural techniques, rooftop farming, family nutrition garden models, and displays of indigenous fruits and vegetables cultivated by local farmers.
Visitors can also find seedlings of various native fruit trees, forest species, and medicinal plants.
Farmers from 10 upazilas across Barishal district are participating in the exhibition, presenting their locally grown vegetables and fruits.
Among others, Mariam Begum, Deputy Director of Barisal Farm House under the Department of Agricultural Extension, was also present at the event.
