4 new RMG factories get Leed certification
Bangladesh has taken another step forward on the path of eco-friendly industrialization. Four new factories in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector have achieved Leed (Leadership in Environmental Design) certification.
As a result, the total number of Leed-certified garment factories in the country has reached 284. Of these, 121 are platinum and 144 are gold rated which has further strengthened Bangladesh’s strong position in the global context.
According to those involved in the sector, Bangladesh is now becoming known as one of the world’s top ‘green factory hubs’ due to investments in sustainable production systems, energy efficiency and environmental protection.
Currently, 52 of the world’s 100 highest-rated Leed factories are located in Bangladesh-which is an important achievement for the country. Out of the four factories that recently received Leed certification, three have achieved platinum and one gold rating. These are-
Pahartali Textiles Limited (Unit-02)
Located in Ispahani Complex area of Chittagong, this factory has received Platinum certification by scoring 86 points in the Leed BD+C: New Construction v4 rating system. It has achieved high scores for modern infrastructure, energy-efficient technology and eco-friendly design.
Weldon Apparel Limited
Located in Sreepur, Gazipur, this factory has received Gold certification by scoring 75 points in the Leed O+M: Existing Buildings v4.1 category. The company has received this recognition for ensuring sustainable management and efficient operation of existing facilities.
Everbright Sweater Limited
Located in Jirabo area of Ashulia, Dhaka, this factory has received Platinum certification by scoring 83 points in the same category. Significant improvements in energy efficiency, water management and waste reduction are the mainstays of this success.
Siam Computerized Elastic Industries Limited (Mamtex)
This factory located in Surabari, Gazipur has achieved the platinum certificate by getting 84 points. The company has ensured a high rating through eco-friendly production, improved ventilation system and sustainable infrastructure.
