Waterlogging reduced, relief returns to Ctg City

Relief has returned to most areas of Chattogram city following quick and effective steps to address temporary waterlogging caused by a canal renovation project.

With the immediate initiative of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, accumulated water receded quickly and the situation has returned to normal.

The Mayor inspected various waterlogging-prone areas of the city and reviewed the overall condition of the drainage system. The inspection revealed that water drainage is now normal in most areas of the city, except for Provartak Mor, and there is no significant waterlogging elsewhere.

Earlier, following the Mayor’s on-site inspection and instructions, temporary embankments installed in the Hijra Canal, Jamalkhan Canal, and Muradpur Box Culvert areas were removed. As a result, water receded quickly in several areas, including Katalganj, Chawkbazar, Jamalkhan, Muradpur, and Bahaddarhat, bringing relief to residents.

According to sources, the 34th Engineer Brigade of the Bangladesh Army, under the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), is implementing canal excavation, renovation, and infrastructure development work.

To facilitate the project, temporary embankments were constructed at various locations, which obstructed water flow during heavy rains and caused waterlogging.

However, after the removal of the temporary embankments in coordination with CDA and army officials under the Mayor’s instructions, the waterlogging situation improved rapidly, significantly reducing the suffering of city residents.
