‘Public awareness vital to solve waterlogging’

Government efforts alone are not enough to solve waterlogging; public awareness is equally essential said Mamun Mahmud, Administrator of the Narayanganj District Council.

An initiative to excavate canals has been launched in the DND embankment area of Fatullah, Narayanganj, to address the long-standing waterlogging problem.

The programme was inaugurated on Saturday (May 2) at the DIT field by Mamun Mahmud, Administrator of the Narayanganj District Council.
He emphasised the need to stop indiscriminate dumping of waste and called for collective action to protect the environment.

He also urged industrial establishments to act responsibly, stressing that factory waste must not be discharged into canals and rivers.

He further mentioned that the initiative is part of the BNP government’s declared 31-point agenda and aligns with a nationwide canal excavation programme announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Local residents welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that if implemented swiftly, it would provide a lasting solution to the persistent waterlogging problems in the Fatullah area.
