Speakers urge coordinated drive against crime in Daudkandi

Speakers at a monthly law and order committee meeting in Daudkandi yesterday called for coordinated and tougher measures to tackle drug abuse and the rising activity of juvenile gangs.

The meeting, held at the Upazila Parishad conference room on Wednesday, was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nasrin Akter.

Dr Maruf stressed the need for a coordinated approach involving law enforcement agencies, communities, families, and educational institutions to curb crime. He called for regular drives, stronger intelligence surveillance, and swift justice. UNO Nasrin Akter urged all departments to act more proactively, saying that coordinated efforts are key to improving the situation.

OC M. A. Bari said police would take a firm stance against crime and sought public cooperation. He also announced that shops along the Gouripur highway must close after 10:00 p.m., and that monitoring of CNG-run auto-rickshaws would be strengthened, with legal action to be taken against violations.

Dr Khandaker Maruf Hossain, a member of the BNP national executive committee and a Supreme Court lawyer, attended as the chief guest. Also present were Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daudkandi Model Police Station M. A. Bari, local political leaders, government officials, union parishad chairmen, and journalists.

Participants expressed concern over the spread of drugs, worsening law and order, juvenile gang activities, and incidents of theft and robbery, urging immediate action.

The meeting ended with a set of recommendations, emphasizing their swift implementation.
