The National Legal Aid Services Day 2026 was observed on Tuesday in a befitting manner at district and local levels across the country, with the aim of ensuring the rule of law, fundamental human rights, and justice for all.
In Kishoreganj, the District Legal Aid Services Committee, along with the District and Sessions Judge Court, organized a colourful rally, discussion meeting, blood donation program, legal aid fair, and cultural programme to mark the day.
This year’s theme was: “Resolving disputes at government expense – Bangladesh first.”
A discussion meeting was held on Tuesday morning in the Judge Court conference room.
Acting District and Sessions Judge Shapria Rahman presided over the meeting, while Women and Children Tribunal Judge (District Judge) Maksudha Pervin, Chief Judicial Magistrate Md. Bellal Hossain, and Civil Surgeon Dr. Ovijeet Sharma attended as special guests.
The programme was also addressed by District Legal Aid Officer (Civil Judge) Swagoton Sammo, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Shariful, Senior Judicial Magistrate Fakhrul Ahamed, Senior Assistant Judge Rakib Hasan, and District Bar Association General Secretary Advocate Aminul Islam Raton, among others.
District Judge Shapria Rahman said that in most cases, extremely poor people are deprived of their constitutional right to legal support. For this reason, the government formulated the National Legal Aid Services Act 2000 to ensure legal assistance for underprivileged citizens.
She added, “I believe the observance of National Legal Aid Services Day will play an important role in ensuring access for all to the legal aid services programme introduced by the government.”
Later, a colourful rally was brought out in the town, led by District Judge Shapria Rahman.
