Nor’wester storms forecast in 7 divisions
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast Nor’wester storms in seven divisions of the country, except for the Barishal Division.
Alongside this, rain has also been forecast in all divisions of the country.
Meteorologist Afroza Sultana said the weather may remain rainy and stormy throughout the remainder of April.
She said that “There may be rain in the Barishal region, but the possibility of a Nor’wester is low. There may be a tendency towards such rain and storms for the next four days. It will then begin to ease” on Monday.
“However, there will still be a chance for rainfall in the Rangpur, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions. However, the chance of rainfall will decrease in other parts of the country.”
In a special warning on Monday, the BMD said west-northwesterly Nor’wester storms with lightning and squalls of 60-80kph are at places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions for the 48 hours from 11am.
The BMD’s regular weather bulletin on Monday morning said that light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning are likely to occur in many places in the Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions from 9am.
Along with this, moderately heavy to very heavy rain is likely in some places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, reports bdnews24.
The day temperature may decrease slightly across the country and the night temperature may remain almost unchanged over this period.
The BMD also forecasts that the heat wave prevailing over the Rangamati, Lakshmipur and Bandarban districts may subside.
In the 24 hours to 9am on Monday, Rangamati recorded the highest temperature across the country at 337 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature was 18.3 degrees Celsius in Mymensingh.
Tangail saw the highest rainfall nationwide over the period with 58mm. The station at Nikli recorded 54mm, the one in Tarash 51mm, the one in Rangpur 51mm, and the one in Sreemangal 50mm.
