Biman’s new board holds 1st meeting
The newly reconstituted board of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Sunday held its first full-day meeting at Balaka, the national carrier’s headquarters, reviewing key operational and strategic matters as it formally began its work.
The 13-member board was constituted through a government notification issued on April 25 by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism. The meeting marked the panel’s first sitting since taking charge.
The board is headed by Chairman Rumi A. Hossain, Sponsor Director of Bank Asia PLC and chairman of its executive committee.
During the day-long session, the board reviewed Biman’s overall operations, financial management, service quality, fleet expansion plans, safety standards, and future strategic direction. Several policy decisions were also taken aimed at strengthening the carrier’s competitiveness and operational efficiency, according to an official release.
The new board draws members from public administration, defence, banking, business, law and academia. The government expressed hope that the professionally diverse panel would help transform Biman into a modern, self-reliant and internationally competitive airline.
Biman has long struggled with financial losses, ageing fleet concerns, and service quality issues, making the new board’s mandate a closely watched one in the aviation sector.
