Govt reaffirms commitment to boost jute sector capacity
Staff Reporter:
Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir on Sunday informed Parliament that the government is firmly committed to enhancing the capacity of the country’s jute sector to meet rising global demand.
He said this while responding to a scripted question from ruling party MP Mohammed Enamul Hoque (Chattogram-12) during the parliamentary session, which resumed at 3:25 pm after a two-day break, with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, in the chair.
The minister emphasized that efforts are underway to strengthen the sector through product diversification, technological modernisation, skills development, and expansion of export markets.
Rejecting claims that jute and jute goods have lost their significance, Muktadir noted that increasing global focus on environmental protection and sustainable development has boosted demand for jute as a natural and biodegradable fibre.
