Chhatra Dal backs press freedom: Nasir
Nasir Uddin Nasir General Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal, has expressed regret over the injury of journalists in an untoward incident that took place at Shahbagh Police Station adjacent to the Dhaka University campus.
In a Facebook post on Friday (24 April), the Chhatra Dal general secretary made the statement. Nasir Uddin Nasir said that an untoward incident occurred yesterday (Thursday) at Shahbagh Police Station adjacent to the Dhaka University campus centring a vulgar Facebook post.
During a tense situation created between mobs formed by both open and covert Shibir activists and agitated Chhatra Dal activists, several members of the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association were injured while collecting news, he said, adding that he expressed sincere regret on behalf of the Chhatra Dal.
He further stated that the Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal believes in the safety of journalists and the freedom of the media.
The role of the journalists’ association in the movement against fascism was commendable.
He also hoped that no journalist would face harassment in the future while performing professional duties.
