Security beefs up in Mohammadpur

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has launched an initiative to strengthen surveillance in the Mohammadpur area of the capital in a bid to control crimes such as theft and mugging.

As part of the plan, the entire area will be covered under a closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring system, reports media.

Police said more than 500 high-capacity CCTV cameras will be installed at key roads, intersections, markets, and densely populated areas. Authorities believe the move will help in quickly identifying suspicious activities and ensuring swift legal action following any criminal incidents.

According to police sources, the law and order situation in Mohammadpur was discussed in detail during the monthly crime review meeting held at the DMP headquarters on April 16, where officials stressed the need for enhanced surveillance in the area.

Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mezbah Uddin told Dhaka Tribune that advanced CCTV cameras are being installed to bring all important locations under continuous monitoring.

He added that this will enable rapid identification of incidents and facilitate prompt legal action.
The OC further said that more than 500 CCTV cameras are expected to be installed across Mohammadpur within the next month as part of the ongoing initiative.
