Cancer-stricken Matia Banu Shuku, family seeks govt help

The country’s noted playwright and director Matia Banu Shuku is going through a difficult time due to her physical condition.
She has been battling cancer for a long time. Her family is struggling to cope with the expensive treatment expenses.
Matia Banu Shuku is the eldest daughter of language warrior Abdul Matin. Her husband is talented filmmaker Nurul Alam Atique.
Atique told the media, “My wife Matia Banu Shukur has sought prayers from well-wishers. She is suffering from cancer. They have been treating her for a long time. We are people of drama.
Those of us who work in dramas and films do not have any special facilities or pensions. Our work is our hope. If one of us suddenly gets cancer, it becomes a big worry for the family. We are trying to be by his side in many ways. But the expensive treatment costs are beyond our means.” He also said that about eight months ago, Shuku was diagnosed with cancer.
After that, she was taken to Chennai for treatment. She will have to go to the doctor in Chennai on April 23. Now she is in the process of preparing for that. Right now, she has to think more about the expenses. Atique said, “From the beginning, both of us in our family have been directing dramas and films. This is our source of income. Since I was diagnosed with cancer last year, neither of us has been working regularly. Meanwhile, the treatment costs in Chennai are high. Apart from this, the treatment will have to be done for a long time. In this situation, we are seeking cooperation from the government.” Quoting Shuku, Atique lastly said, “Matia Banu Shuku has asked for prayers from friends and loved ones, viewers.”
