Nahid Rana bags 5-wkt: Tigers level ODI series 1-1 with NZ

A five-wicket haul by promising fast bowler Nahid Rana powered Bangladesh Cricket team to earn an easy six-wicket victory over New Zealand (NZ) Cricket team in their second One Day International (ODI) match and leveled the series 1-1 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Monday.
Nahid Rana bowled extremely well and finished his superb spell as 10-1-32-5. Nahid Rana was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning bowling performance.
The Tigers lost to the Kiwis by 26 runs in the first ODI at the same venue on April 17.
Chasing New Zealand Cricket team’s paltry total of 198 off 48.4 overs, Bangladesh coasted home making 199 for the loss of four wickets remaining with 87 balls. Bangladesh lost their early two wickets for 21 runs.
Then, opener Tanzid Hasan and second-down Najmul Hossain Shanto rescued their team from danger contributing together 120 runs for the third wicket partnership before Tanzid Hasan was caught at the long-off by Henry Nicholls off Jayden Lennox when the Tigers’ total was 141 for the loss of three wickets.
Tanzid Hasan hammered a marvelous 76. His 58-ball innings was decorated with four sixes and 10 fours.
Then, Litton Das arrived at the crease but he could stay at the pitch for a short period as he (7) was caught at the midwicket by Dean Foxcroft off Jayden Lennox when the home side’s score was 154 for the loss of four wickets. Shanto was retired hurt when Bangladesh’s total was 167 for the loss of four wickets.
Shanto hit an exact 50. His 71-ball innings was laced with five fours and two sixes.
Towhid Hridoy and Mehidy Hasan Miraz guided their team to anchor the victory target adding together 32 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership.
Hridoy remained unbeaten with 30, while Miraz remained unbeaten with eight runs.
Hridoy hit five fours in his 31-ball innings.
Lennox was his team’s most successful bowler with two wickets for 36 runs.
Earlier, opener Nick Kelly was the only batter of New Zealand who shone with the willow. He notched up a terrific 83. His 102-ball knock was studded with 14 fours.
Shoriful Islam bagged two wickets at the cost of 32 runs, while Rishad Hossain, Soumya Sarkar and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each for 21, 27 and 46 runs respectively.
