‘Democracy will be established by defeating domestic, foreign plots’
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, a Member of Parliament has vowed to defeat what he described as domestic and foreign conspiracies and establish a prosperous, democratic state in Bangladesh.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting organised by the Narayanganj District BNP near the New Court premises on Thursday, marking the anniversary of the July Uprising.
In his keynote speech, Azad said the people of Bangladesh had repeatedly entrusted the BNP, led by former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and inspired by the ideals of late President Ziaur Rahman, with the responsibility of restoring democratic rights. He said the party had earned the people’s confidence through previous elections and had been given the opportunity to form governments.
According to Azad, the public expects the BNP to establish a prosperous and democratic state where freedom of speech and the right to express opinions are fully protected.
He further said that following the mass uprising, the “authoritarian ruler” was forced to flee in the face of widespread public protests. However, he alleged that a particular political party, backed by both domestic and foreign conspirators, is once again trying to destabilise the country.
Warning those he described as conspirators, Azad said there would be no place in Bangladesh for either foreign or domestic plotters. He pledged that all such conspiracies would be defeated and democracy restored.
He added that, under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, the BNP, together with the people of Bangladesh, would work to build a prosperous and democratic state.
The meeting was chaired by Narayanganj District BNP Convener Professor Mamun Mahmud and moderated by Joint Convener Mashukul Islam Rajib.
Among the special guests were BNP Central Executive Committee Co-Organising Secretary (Dhaka Division) and Member of Parliament Nazrul Islam Azad, and Executive Committee Member and Member of Parliament Azharul Islam Mannan.
A large number of leaders, activists, supporters and members of the BNP and its affiliated organisations from across Narayanganj District attended the programme.
