Infant killed for crying Stepfather arrested
A three-month-old infant was allegedly killed by his stepfather in the Darussalam Police Station area of Mirpur, Dhaka, after the child’s crying reportedly disturbed his sleep.
The incident took place in the early hours of Friday (April 17) at a rented house in the Bardhanabari area.
Police said the accused, Apurba (22), has been arrested in connection with the case.
According to police sources, the infant was crying while lying beside his mother when the stepfather allegedly became agitated.
He reportedly shouted at his wife, saying the crying should be stopped. When the infant continued crying, he is alleged to have covered the child’s mouth and nose, after which the baby became unconscious. The child’s mother, Razia Khatun, later filed a murder case against her husband, Apurba.
Neighbours reportedly rushed to the scene after hearing screams and detained the suspect before handing him over to police.Authorities said the infant’s biological father is currently in prison in a drug-related case.
It was also noted that Razia Khatun had recently married Apurba, about a week prior to the incident. Local sources alleged that the accused may have links to drug-related activities, though this has not been officially confirmed.
Officer-in-Charge of Darussalam Police Station, S M Zakaria, confirmed the incident and said the infant’s body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy. He also stated that the accused has confessed during interrogation.
