Charge hearing in Tulip case set for May 6

Charge framing in flat fraud case against British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq has been deferred, a court in Dhaka has ruled.

The hearing for framing charges against Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, a British Member of Parliament, and former RAJUK assistant legal adviser Sardar Mosharraf Hossain in a case involving alleged fraud over a flat in Gulshan-2 has been postponed to May 6.

The decision was taken on Thursday after a hearing before Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Mir Ahmed Ali Salam confirmed the matter, saying the charge framing hearing was scheduled for the day but was deferred due to judicial workload, and a new date was set.

Earlier, the case was transferred from Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court to Special Judge Court-5 after it was found ready for trial on April 8. On February 18, the court accepted the charge sheet and issued arrest warrants against the accused.

According to the ACC, the case involves allegations that a flat in the Gulshan-2 area was occupied and registered without payment through abuse of power, in collusion with others.

The investigation had earlier been temporarily stayed following a High Court writ petition in July, but was later completed, leading to the submission of a charge sheet against Tulip Siddiq and Sardar Mosharraf Hossain.
