Justice SM Moniruzzaman reinstated to judicial duties

Justice S. M. Moniruzzaman, who had been sent on leave following the July mass uprising, has been reinstated to judicial duties.

He is set to resume hearing cases in the High Court bench from Sunday.

According to the High Court Division’s bench roster published on Thursday, Justice SM Moniruzzaman has been assigned to a division bench alongside Justice Dihidar Kabir Masum. The bench is scheduled to begin judicial proceedings from Sunday, reports media.

Sources indicate that the Supreme Judicial Council did not find any material evidence warranting an investigation against Justice Moniruzzaman. A distinguished alumnus of the Department of Law at Rajshahi University, he earned recognition as a specialist lawyer in VAT and customs law before being appointed as a High Court judge.

He is reportedly the first among the 12 judges who were sent on leave after the July uprising to be restored to judicial responsibilities.
