Deep Dhaka-Beijing ties helpful for both countries
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon said stronger Dhaka-Beijing relations would be mutually beneficial for both countries.
The minister makes the remark during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen. The ambassador paid a courtesy call on the minister in the morning at his office at the secretariat on Thursday.
During the meeting, the envoy expressed China’s willingness to further strengthen relations with Bangladesh in the fields of information and communication technology, diplomacy, training, and mass communication, assuring continued cooperation with the present government, reports media.
Prime Minister’s Information Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yeaser Khan Choudhury, MP, and Information Secretary Mahbuba Farzana were present.
The ambassador proposed signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation between Chinese state media and Bangladeshi media outlets.
He also said China plans to organize two separate summits in July and October this year. The events are expected to facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge and skills between Bangladeshi journalists and intellectuals, which, he said, would play an important role in enhancing bilateral relations.
The minister described China as a long-standing and trusted friend of Bangladesh and praised its remarkable technological progress.
Reiterating his stance, he said stronger Dhaka-Beijing ties would help both countries acquire new technological capabilities.
He also reaffirmed Bangladesh’s strong commitment to expanding cooperation in these sectors, saying the Chinese proposal would be viewed positively in the context of evolving global realities.
