7-km canal re-excavation begins in Barshail

A seven-kilometre canal re-excavation project has started in Barshail union under Sadar upazila, targeting improved irrigation and increased agricultural productivity in the region.

The project, stretching from Kalitola Bridge to Hapania Bazar, is being implemented at a cost of Tk 98.74 lakh. Local Member of Parliament Zahidul Islam Dhalu formally inaugurates the work on Saturday.

Following the inauguration, a view-sharing meeting was held at Tentulia College ground, where the MP addressed the gathering as the chief guest.

According to him, the project will benefit thousands of farmers across Barshail, Hapania, and Chakgouri unions by improving irrigation, reducing production costs, and increasing yields of rice, vegetables, and other crops.

The re-excavation work is being carried out by the National Development Programme in collaboration with the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen rural infrastructure and agricultural sustainability in the region.
