Amin, Shibly to speak for PMO

Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin and Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M. Saleh, widely known as Saleh Shibly, have been appointed spokespersons for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), according to an official notification issued on Sunday.

The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the appointment was made under Rule 28(4) of the Rules of Business, 1996, authorising both officials to provide and disseminate official information related to the PMO to the press, media and other platforms. The order takes immediate effect.

According to the notification, Mahdi Amin and Saleh Shibly will jointly serve as spokespersons, ensuring the timely communication of government positions and official updates from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Mahdi Amin, who holds the rank of state minister, is currently responsible for several key ministries, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

He played a significant role in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) central election steering committee ahead of the 13th parliamentary election and also served as its spokesperson.

During the election period, Mahdi Amin regularly briefed the media from the party’s election office in Gulshan, presenting the party’s stance on various political and policy issues.

Saleh Shibly was appointed Press Secretary to the Prime Minister on 19 February with the rank and status of secretary.

Earlier, on 3 January, he had been appointed Press Secretary to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and has worked closely with him for several decades.

Before joining the Prime Minister’s Office, Saleh Shibly built a long career in journalism and media, working with several prominent organisations, including UNB, the daily Manabzamin, The Daily Banglabazar, Radio Today and Channel i.

He also served as First Secretary (Press) at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata during the tenure of the four-party alliance government, gaining experience in diplomatic and media communications.

Officials said the appointments are aimed at strengthening the flow of official information from the Prime Minister’s Office and improving coordination with the media and public communication channels.

With the inclusion of both Mahdi Amin and Saleh Shibly as spokespersons, the PMO is expected to maintain a more structured and coordinated communication approach in disseminating government policies, decisions and official statements to the public and the media.
