ICT allows interrogation of former DIG Jalil
The International Crimes Tribunal Bangladesh has permitted its investigation agency to interrogate former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdul Jalil Mondal in a crimes against humanity case linked to the 2013 Shapla Chattar crackdown 2013.
The tribunal granted the permission on Sunday (April 5) following a prosecution application and directed that the interrogation be completed on any one day within the next 15 days.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim appeared for the prosecution and also sought an additional two months to submit the investigation report. The tribunal has set June 7 as the next date for submitting the report.
Earlier, on March 31, the tribunal ordered that Jalil be sent to ??? after showing him arrested in the case. He had been detained by the Detective Branch (DB) of police from the Sabujbagh area of Dhaka on March 30.
During the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar on May 5, 2013, Jalil was serving as an additional commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He later served as an additional director general of the Rapid Action Battalion.
Six accused, including Abdul Jalil Mondal and Shahriar Kabir, were produced before the tribunal earlier in the day. Other accused include former state minister for home affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku, retired Major General Ziaul Ahsan, former inspector general of police AKM Shahidul Haque, and former DIG Molla Nazrul Islam.
