Tasnim Jara criticises move to repeal

Dr. Tasnim Jara, former Joint Secretary of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has expressed strong opposition to the government’s reported plan to repeal the Anti-Enforced Disappearance Ordinance.
In a Facebook post on Friday (April 3), Tasnim Zara alleged that the government wants to annul the ordinance, citing concerns that law enforcement agencies would require prior government approval for any investigation or arrest under the law.

Tasnim Jara said, “The state’s primary responsibility is to protect its citizens. But when investigations into security forces or arrests require government approval, the state places itself above accountability. This is a clear violation of the universal constitutional principle that all are equal before the law.”

The former NCP leader, who contested in the Dhaka-9 constituency, warned that such provisions would make impartial investigations into enforced disappearance cases impossible. She pointed out that many families have been denied justice in the past.

She further stated, “Equality before the law is a fundamental principle. Any step that undermines this principle turns the law into a tool to protect the powerful while depriving ordinary citizens of justice.”
