Bangladesh, Malta pledge stronger bilateral ties-coop

Bangladesh and Malta have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening partnership and cooperation across trade, education, gender equality, and migration.

High Commissioner of Malta to Bangladesh (resident in New Delhi) Reuben Gauci called on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

He congratulated her on her appointment and expressed hope that bilateral relations would strengthen under the new government.

During the meeting, both sides discussed expanding political collaboration in bilateral and multilateral forums.

Shama Obaed welcomed Malta’s holistic visa services for Bangladeshi students and workers, noting that it saves significant time and costs.

She also sought Malta’s support for Bangladesh’s bid for the Presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly for 2026-2027.

The discussions highlighted the potential for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union to boost trade, while both sides exchanged views on regional and global issues, emphasizing the need for peace, stability, and enhanced international cooperation.
