Ex- Jatiya Party MP Jinnah held
The Detective Branch (DB) of Bogura police arrested Shariful Islam Jinnah, the president of the Jatiya Party’s Bogura District Committee and a former member of parliament (MP), from the capital’s Ramna area early today (27 March).
Iqbal Bahar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bogura DB, said Jinnah was arrested around 3:30am in connection with multiple cases.
“Jinnah has been absconding since being named in several cases, including a murder case filed over an incident during the July Uprising. A total of 10 cases are pending in court against him, including charges of murder and those under the Explosive Substances Act,” he added.
The DB official said Jinnah would be produced before the court in connection with the cases.
Jinnah was elected MP from Bogura-2 uncontested in 2014 and again in 2018 and 2024 as a Jatiya Party candidate. He also serves as a praesidium member of the Jatiya Party’s central committee. He withdrew his candidacy from the latest 13th national election held on 12 February 2026.
According to his recent electoral affidavit, Jinnah is also facing two separate cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). These are in addition to the various charges brought against him linked to the 2024 July Uprising.
