Black market fuel alleged in Khulna

Amid an acute fuel crisis in Khulna, allegations have surfaced that petroleum products are being illegally sold in drums on the black market, even as filling stations report shortages for regular consumers.

Residents claim that while pumps remain dry during the day, fuel is secretly transported at night in drums using vans and motorcycles, and later sold at inflated prices.

One such allegation has been raised against Messrs KCC Petroleum Pump at Power House Intersection, a key area in the city. Eyewitnesses say customers are often turned away during the day due to “no fuel,” but suspicious movements of fuel containers are observed after dark.

The ongoing global situation has led to severe fuel shortages across the country, including Khulna. Motorcyclists and other vehicle owners have been seen waiting in long queues for hours, only to leave without fuel. The shortage has also disrupted transportation services.

To manage the situation, the government has introduced a rationing system for fuel distribution. However, due to overwhelming demand, supplies at filling stations are reportedly exhausted within a short time each day.

The alleged nighttime sale of fuel in drums has raised fresh concerns among locals, who are calling for stricter monitoring and immediate investigation by the authorities.
