Hamidur Rahman joins BNP

Hamidur Rahman, a former leader of Dhaka city Awami League, has joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). This was recently announced in a letter signed by Mohammad Shahin Ahmed, secretary of Ward 62 of the BNP.

The letter states that Hamidur Rahman was an influential local leader and supporter of the Awami League. Of his own free will and without any coercion, he joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party on February 2, 2026.

He has expressed full support for the party chairman Tarique Rahman and has severed all political ties with the Awami League, now aligning himself with the BNP’s political platform.
Commenting on his decision to join the BNP, Hamidur Rahman said, “I have been active in Awami League politics for a long time.
But the party no longer upholds Bangabandhu’s ideals. People have engaged in wrongdoing as they pleased, and party workers are not valued. To continue democratic practices, embracing the ideals of Ziaur Rahman, I have joined the BNP. As long as I live, I will pursue nationalist politics.”
