Savar ‘serial killer’ Samrat dies
Moshiur Rahman Khan Samrat, widely known as “Psycho Samrat” and accused in a series of killings in Savar, has died.
He was declared dead around 7:30am on Monday at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Confirming the matter, Md Helal Uddin, Inspector (Operations)
of Savar Model Police Station, said prison authorities informed them that Samrat—who had been lodged at Dhaka Central Jail—suddenly experienced severe chest pain early in the morning.
He was rushed to DMCH, where doctors declared him dead. According to police, Samrat was allegedly involved in at least seven killings between 2025 and 2026 in Savar. Investigators said he used an abandoned community centre in the Savar upazila as a “death trap,” luring victims there before killing them.
CCTV footage showing him carrying victims’ bodies on his shoulders later emerged as key evidence in the investigation.
Law enforcement agencies arrested him in January 2026. Five cases had been filed against him with Savar Model Police Station. Police also said they had obtained confessional statements and other evidence, including CCTV footage, in connection with the cases.
Md Monirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Louhajang Police Station, said they learned about Samrat’s death through Facebook and had not yet received any official communication from prison authorities, possibly because his listed address was in Savar.
