Eastern Bank supports Bangladesh Red Crescent Society
Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) will support the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) to enhance the functionality of selected Mother and Child Health (MCH) centres across the country.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two organizations at a ceremony held at the bank’s head office in Dhaka recently.
Under this initiative, EBL will support the improvement of health services at four BDRCS’ MCH centres located in Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, Brahmanbaria, and DinajpurÍmany of which serve rural, remote, and disaster-prone communities with limited access to quality healthcare.
Maj. Md. Abdus Salam, psc (Retd), Head of Administration of EBL, handed over a cheque to Dr. Kabir M. Ashraf Alam, ndc, Secretary General of BDRCS, during the signing ceremony to mark the beginning of this project.
The initiative, titled æImproving Mother and Child Health Service Provision,” will run for 12 months and is expected to benefit around 15,000 people, including mothers, children, and elderly community members.
The project will support infrastructure renovation, improved sanitation and water facilities, installation of essential diagnostic equipment, and regular medical support from qualified physicians, including general practitioners and gynaecology specialists.
The signing ceremony was attended by Areefa Mehera Sinha, Director of International Relations, Communications and Fundraising, and Dr. Shahana Zafor, Director of the BDRCS Blood Programme, along with officials from both organizations.
Currently, BDRCS operates 56 Mother and Child Health (MCH) centres serving approximately 1.4 million people across Bangladesh.
