PM expresses grief over nationwide road deaths

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged the concerned authorities to take immediate action and effective measures to address the road accidents in various parts of the country.

He has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the recent tragic road and rail accidents in various parts of the country, including Cumilla, which have resulted in significant casualties.

In an official condolence message, the Prime Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved families.

Beyond condolences messages, the Prime Minister has directed the local administration and the Ministry of Health to ensure round-the-clock medical treatment for the injured. He has also ordered that the process of providing financial assistance to the families of the deceased be expedited.

“Such tragic incidents during the holy occasion of Eid are extremely painful. Every citizen’s life is valuable to us. Each death in an accident is an irreparable loss to the nation.”

The Prime Minister has taken a firm stance regarding the investigation into the train-bus collision at a railway crossing in Cumilla.

He also said that no delay will be tolerated.
Three separate probe committees have formed to identify the causes of the incident and determine responsibility.

Two high-level committees formed to investigate the railway crashes. One committee by the Cumilla district administration

All committees have been given a strict deadline of 72 hours to submit their final reports. In the meantime, several individuals have been suspended and brought under legal proceedings on preliminary charges of negligence. The Prime Minister has clearly stated that exemplary legal action will be taken against those found responsible, based on the investigation findings.

To prevent the recurrence of such accidents in districts including Bogura, Feni, Habiganj, and Jamalpur, the Prime Minister has stressed the need for comprehensive reforms in the national transport system.
He stated, “Ensuring safe and uninterrupted travel for the public is a top priority of the government. Any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated.”

He has instructed the Ministries of Railways and Road Transport to take immediate action in three key areas:
Identify all unprotected crossings and upgrade them with modern safety systems.
Conduct inspections of railway and road bridges and initiate urgent repair work where necessary.
Identify systemic flaws in the transport network and implement necessary reforms on an emergency basis.

At this time of national mourning, the Prime Minister’s timely and firm directives send a positive message towards ensuring safer transportation systems in the future.
