‘No anticipated food shortage despite global tensions’

Fisheries and Livestock, Agriculture and Food Minister Mohammad Amin ur Rashid said on Wednesday that the nation is unlikely to encounter any food crisis despite continuing global conflicts.

While inaugurating a rice distribution initiative under the Ministry of Food in Shimpur village of Cumilla Sadar upazila, the minister said, “The country has adequate food reserves through June-July, and local production surpasses imports.”

Minister emphasized that the government is continuously monitoring both domestic production and international market conditions to maintain stability in food supply. Necessary steps are being taken to strengthen storage facilities and streamline distribution systems so that essential commodities reach people without disruption.

He further said, “The effects of war will be experienced worldwide. However, this will not lead to a food shortage in our country, as we produce more food than we import.”

“The rainy season has already begun, which will further boost agricultural output,” he added.
The minister also assured that imported rice would not be supplied to recipients without thorough quality checks. To ensure this, additional personnel have been assigned at Chattogram port, he said.

He also urged farmers to make the most of favorable weather conditions and adopt modern cultivation techniques to further increase yield. The government, he said, will continue providing support through subsidies, training, and timely supply of agricultural inputs to sustain production growth.
