4-member committee to probe over train derailment

A four-member investigation committee has been formed by the railway authorities to probe the cause of derailment of the Nil Sagar Express traveling from Dhaka to Chilahati in Nilphamari.

Chief transport officer will lead the committee while other members are a mechanical engineer, chief engineer, and chief signal engineer.

The train departed Dhaka for Chilahati at 6:45am today. While passing Santahar station and heading toward Tilakpur station, nine coaches derailed in Bagmari area of Adamdighi Upazila in Bogura district.

A total of 66 people were injured. Out of them, 20 are receiving treatment at Naogaon Sadar Hospital, 40 were treated and discharged after first aid, and six received first aid at Bogura Adamdighi Upazila Health Complex.

Relief trains are being dispatched from Ishwardi and Parbatipur to assist in the recovery operation.

All trains departing from Dhaka this evening and night have been cleared, except the Panchagarh Express, which cannot proceed until its section is cleared.

The Chilahati Express, Drutojan Express, and Kurigram Express can depart Dhaka on time. Once the recovery operation is completed, none of these trains will face delay.

If the recovery work is not finished, the Kurigram Express may be rerouted via an alternate path from Santahar. Similarly, the Drutojan Express departing Dhaka in the evening may face temporary delay.
