Last-minute shopping increasing in Sylhet malls

The last week of Ramadan is underway. So, as always, last-minute Eid shopping is in full swing in Sylhet.

Preparations for the Eid festival are endless. People are rushing from one market to another to buy new favorite clothes.

A crowd of buyers has been observed from various markets and shopping malls in the city to the sidewalks.

With the remittances sent by expatriates coming in the last decade of Ramadan, the Eid market is now in a festive mood.

Young people and children from almost every family are in the Eid market. Shoppers are now flocking to all stores, from sarees, dresses, jewelry, Punjabi, pajamas, to children’s clothing.

It was seen on the spot that such a scene was seen in Sylhet’s elite shopping mall Al-Hamra Shopping City, various markets and shops in Bandar Bazar and Zindabazar.

In addition, there is a crowd in the elite fashion houses of Nayasadrak and Kumarpara. Young people are searching for their favorite clothes and Eid accessories from morning till night.

Along with this, people from the lower and middle classes are also crowding the city’s sidewalks for Eid shopping.

One of the features of the market this time is the dominance of local clothes.

Although various clothes named after Indian serials and heroines were popular in other years, they are not so present in the market this time.

As a result, the sale of local designer clothes has increased several times along with foreign clothes.

Sellers are struggling to display and handle the clothes of the buyers’ choice.

The number of female buyers in these markets is much higher than the male buyers. They are moving from one market to another to buy their favorite clothes.

Meanwhile, keeping in mind the heat, the list of favorites of young women includes three-pieces, ladies tops, kurtis-pants of various designs, saris and other local clothes of exotic designs. In addition, Pakistani dresses are also available in these shops.

However, the number of Indian dresses is very small, and there is not much sales, but buyers are looking for Pakistani dresses this time.

New clothes are one of the main accessories of Eid. Therefore, people of all ages in Sylhet are now busy shopping to decorate themselves in colorful fashion.

A huge crowd of buyers is also seen in the city’s New Market, various shopping complexes in the heart of the city and footpath shops.

The shops are also decorated in colorful decorations. The showrooms are decorated with attractive lighting and colorful banners.

This time, one of the attractions of the market is the local ready-made clothes.

Especially, buyers are showing more interest in Punjabi, three-piece, saree, kurta, fatua and various colorful clothes for children. New designs, fancy names and modern designs are adorning the shops.

These clothes with colorful colors and beautiful designs are easily catching the attention of buyers.

Shopping has become quite busy in the shopping malls and footpath shops of the city’s Bandar Bazar, Zindabazar, Nayasadrak, Amberkhana, Kumarpara and Lamabazar. In addition to sarees, three-pieces, Punjabis and children’s clothing, there is a huge crowd at shoe and beauty shops.

Due to the increased influx of buyers, severe traffic jams and slowness are being observed on important roads of the city from noon to late at night.

The markets have a collection of various domestic and foreign designer clothes, giving buyers a choice.

On the spot, shoppers can see a huge crowd of buyers everywhere at the shopping malls and fashion houses of Bandar Bazar, Zindabazar, Nayasadrak and Kumarpara in the city.

While there was not much traffic in the shopping malls at the beginning of Ramadan, now there is no place to keep sesame seeds in the shops.

As the markets are decorated with colorful lights ahead of Eid, there is a festive atmosphere everywhere.

Since the markets are open from 10 am, many people go out to shop early in the morning to avoid the crowd. Many people think that the crowd is less before Iftar, so they shop in the afternoon.

Many people do not want to suffer the hustle and bustle of the market after fasting all day. So, after Iftar, people feel comfortable shopping at night. Most people shop until midnight at this time.

However, many buyers complain that the prices of their favorite clothes are not matching the prices.

They claim that the prices of most clothes are a little higher this year compared to last year.

Many have expressed some dissatisfaction because the prices of branded and new design clothes are relatively high.

On the other hand, traders say something different.

They claim that the increase in the price of clothes in the wholesale market has also affected the retail market.

Moreover, prices have to be kept a little higher due to the increase in shop rent, electricity bills and other expenses. However, traders have expressed satisfaction that sales are good due to the large presence of buyers.

Traders said that despite the adverse weather, shopping is going well. Although our business was not as expected at the beginning of Ramadan, we are very happy with the number of buyers who are coming now.

Considering the needs of buyers, we have kept a collection of modern and good quality clothes. I hope that we will be able to sell like this or even better until the day before Eid.

Shoppers are checking and buying dresses, sarees, children’s clothes, shirts, T-shirts, pants, Punjabi, shoes, cosmetics, and jewelry according to their preferences by visiting different markets.

Many people like branded clothes, so they go to brand shops, while many people like Indian clothes, so they run to non-branded shops.

Bank officer Salim Ahmed, who came to do Eid shopping, said, Eid-ul-Fitr is coming again every year.

I have bought new clothes for my family in advance to share the joy of Eid with everyone. Now I am buying for myself.

Secretary General of Bangladesh Shop Owners Association Sylhet District Branch and President of Sylhet Metropolitan Businessmen Unity Welfare Council Abdur Rahman Ripon said, “The night is crowded, the number of buyers is less during the day.

This year, business and trade is less compared to last year. And the Middle East war has affected Sylhet, which is populated by expatriates; currently, due to the war, Middle East expatriates are not able to send money.

As a result, many are not able to shop. Then, the number of buyers in the city’s markets has increased.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury said, “On the occasion of Eid Bazaar, police members are present at various important intersections and markets in the city for security.

Checkpoints have already been increased in the city. In addition, additional traffic police have been deployed to resolve traffic congestion in the city. Police members are also on duty in plain clothes.
